Congratulations to all of Rostrevor’s youngest learners who were recognised at this morning’s Junior Years Touchstone and Co-Curricular Assembly. Those students who stand out by consistently living out our Touchstones in every aspect of school life were celebrated with Touchstone awards presented by Brother John Ahern. Students who have consistently displayed determination and talent or Rostrevor’s spirit and values on the sporting field were awarded MVP and Red and Black Co-Curricular awards. We also took time to congratulate those students who bravely took on the ICAS competition, with the following students achieving excellent results:
The Year 10 Outdoor Education class visited Port Noarlunga on Wednesday to put the skills they had been practicing in our College pool to the test in a natural environment. Snorkeling over the Port Noarlunga reef, the Year 10s also used the excursion to gain a deeper insight into the environment and ecology of our local marine areas. They saw plenty of wildlife, including the reef’s own friendly small Port Jackson shark!
Once Upon a Festival is a workshop for Junior Years students which aims to generate a lifelong love of literature and provides a unique opportunity for students to meet and learn from some of Australia's notable authors and illustrators. A group of Rostrevor’s Year 5 and 6 students participated in workshops with industry heavyweights James Foley, George Ivanoff, Tsunami Hee Ja and Sean Williams on Thursday last week.
"I had the best time of my life." - Tamer Zeidan
"I loved listening to the authors tell us how they make their books!" - Aekas Soodan
"It was very fun and I hope I can go next year, as I am excited to see more creators there." - Oliver Seret
Students in Year 10 Science had fun on Friday last week constructing and launching model rockets. Watched on by both Year 4 classes, the rockets reached impressive heights, flying vertically for hundreds of feet before deploying parachutes to ease their landings. These experiments were conducted as an extension task for Year 10 students interested in undertaking Stage 1 Physics next year. What an exciting way to finish off the school week!
Year 10 students Ashton Cresswell and Archer Urban-Burrows are teaming up with Junior Years students to make English learning fun and engaging this term! Together, they’re building communication and critical thinking skills through lively sessions full of stories, games, and interactive activities. Ashton and Archer put thought into every session, tailoring each one to their audience and purpose. The Junior students are loving the chance to practice their English skills with the “big kids” and build confidence in their communication skills along the way.
Senior Italian students participated in an Italian Card Game tournament with the Year 9 and 10 students from Mary MacKillop College on Monday in Callan Hall. Some students also invited family members to increase their chances of winning! The games of Briscola and Scopa originated in the 16th and 18th centuries respectively and continue to be enjoyed by all ages today. It was a great way for our Italian language students to practice speaking the language, immerse themselves in the culture and learn more about both from their and their peers’ family members.
Year 6 student leaders from fellow Adelaide Edmund Rice schools, St Paul’s College and Christian Brothers College, joined Rostrevor’s Year 6 leaders here yesterday for the final EREA Primary Leaders Day for 2024. Across the year they have gathered at St Paul’s and CBC to participate in activity days aimed at fostering friendships across the schools with a focus on working collaboratively to brainstorm charity and wellbeing initiatives. Yesterday, the Year 6s were able to share how their efforts had gone throughout the year in between team building and problem-solving activities. The group even had time to walk up to the Agriculture Farm to experience Rostrevor’s furry and feathery friends.
The Open Water Polo team put on an impressive display on Friday last week, finishing their game with a convincing 11-0 win over St Michael’s College. Well done to Year 11 Harry Maxwell who significantly contributed to this tally with six goals to his name. With the closure of the Adelaide Aquatic Centre, SAAS Water Polo has found a new home this term at St Peter’s College.
The Football Running Club welcomes students from the Middle and Senior Years Football teams to participate in weekly morning sessions from 7:30am to 8:30am every Monday.
