Today we welcomed eight prospective boarding families from across Australia to Rostrevor for the ‘Gather Round’ Boarding tour. Families who had travelled to Adelaide to attend one of the AFL Gather Round matches were invited to drop by the College before the game for a tour. With a strong focus on boarding, the tour also served as a chance to get to know staff and current students over morning tea. I would like to thank College Registrar Annemarie Mein for her invaluable work in organising this fantastic initiative.
On Wednesday this week the Prefects invited Michael Neroni from Novita to run the Wheelienet program - a program whereby students learn more about the everyday challenges of living with disability. They used wheelchairs to get around the College, identifying hazards with an aim to raise awareness in the community about these challenges and advocate for a safer and more accessible environment for wheelchair users.
They also welcomed Loreto College’s student leaders to join them as they learned how to play wheelchair basketball, putting on a friendly exhibition match for students during lunchtime.
On Tuesday, Joseph Vorrasi's Year 10 Economics and Business class attended Business Workshops at the University of South Australia (City West). Students participated in three workshops: Building a Successful Business, Enterprise Careers in Business, and Digital Future in Business (VR Experience) before taking a campus tour. They tried their hand at building a new business and learned about the fundamentals of constructing a successful business plan. They also had the opportunity to discover the broad career opportunities available in the field of business. Undoubtedly, a highlight for all students was learning how to use the VR headsets through an activity which promoted their logic, imagination and digital awareness.
"It was a great day that gave us good insight into what it’s like to be a university student." - Harry Krieg
"It was an insightful experience and different from our usual school environment, particularly with the VR headsets." - Kalan Marzullo
Congratulations to 2023 graduate Fabian Talladira who was this week promoted to Scholarship Player by Adelaide United FC. He has signed with the club until the end of the 2026/27 season. Last year, Fabian represented Australia in the Young Socceroos team and helped Rostrevor’s First XI retain the Intercol trophy. This year, he returns to Rostrevor as the assistant coach for the First XI team. Read more about his achievement HERE.

Hear from Head of School Daniel Stratford:
On Tuesday I had the pleasure to attend the Cricket Presentation Night. This was a fantastic celebration of the season and of the time, effort and dedication that students, parents, coaches and staff made in 2023/24. It was a brilliant night with over 160 people in attendance, so many parents and families interacting and sharing a meal while talking so positively about their Rostrevor cricket experience.
Congratulations to Josh Clarke, Sarah Catterwell, Jordan Young and all the coaches (many of them on staff) for their hard work this season. The energy in the room and the celebration of all awards winners was so genuine and so overwhelmingly positive. This further highlights the Rostrevor spirit and the connection between the College community and its rich co-curricular program.

Rostrevor’s 2024 First XI Soccer side played their second friendly preseason match against Blackfriars Priory School on Wednesday afternoon. Having already secured their first win last week against Gleeson, Rostrevor took an early lead through Joseph Terminello powering a header into the bottom corner before Henry Knight made it 2-0 with an accomplished finish past the Blackfriars GK, although Blackfriars were able to pull one back just before half time. The 3-1 win was eventually sealed when substitute Vincenzo Scalzi picked the ball up from a well worked short corner routine and drove the ball into the bottom corner from 20 yards out.
Congratulations to Year 7 student Kavish Nagpal who placed second in the U1200 division of the national Doeberl Cup Chess Tournament over the weekend in Canberra! Winning five out of his six games, Kavish beat the current third-best nationally ranked player in his division to secure the impressive trophy at Australia’s largest and most prestigious chess tournament.
Congratulations to Year 9 student Jack Isaac for his selection to represent South Australia at the Under 16 National Basketball Championship! Jack’s selection comes a week after fellow Rostrevor student Noah Sampson was also selected for the U18 team. It has been over a decade since a Rostrevor student achieved a place in a state basketball team, so to have two boys selected this year is outstanding! Jack will venture to Victoria in July for the competition alongside Rostrevor teacher, Carla Saponari who is assistant coach for the girls team.
Thank you to the Captain of the South Australian Cricket team and Redbacks Cricket team Jake Lehmann for visiting Rostrevor’s Junior Years teams this week. Jake ran training sessions for our budding players who were beyond grateful to learn from the cricketing legend!
