We wish our Year 11 and 12s luck as they head off on retreat next week. Retreats are an opportunity for our boys to connect with one another, themselves and staff in a safe and welcoming environment as they delve into their own spirituality.
The ‘White House’ turned into the ‘Red House’ on Friday for A Night on the Lawns. Students, teachers and old collegians put on a fantastic show for the many picnicking Rostrevor families. The friendships, talent and passion for music on display were wonderful to witness. The night was a beautiful way to gather as a community to celebrate Rostrevor’s strong music scene. I would like to extend my thanks and congratulations to those who performed on the night.
Students in Year 7 spent the Enculturation Day rotating through different activities around the College. From identifying significant places and spaces on the Heritage trail, to the history and symbolism of the Chapel windows. The Heritage room with the artefacts on display was a popular activity being accompanied by many stories from Brother John Ahern. Our students also learned to play Handball under the professional guidance of our old scholar Handball Coaches. Time was spent with their Head of House understanding more about the House history, namesake and crest and with Year 11 Vice Captains leading thoughtful discussions about the challenges and joy of starting their Middle Years at Rostrevor.
The Year 11 geography class were out and about in the Adelaide Hills investigating bushfire risk, awareness and preparedness today. The boys conducted surveys of badly affected areas during the Ash Wednesday fires of 1983 and explored the CFS burn off areas around Belair National Park before finishing the day interviewing the public about their bushfire awareness in Hahndorf. The boys use industry standard GIS technology to map bushfire risk and offer solutions as to how we can manage these in Rostrevor’s environment.

The 100th Cricket Intercol began yesterday morning with Rostrevor winning the toss and electing to bowl first. Day 1 ended with Sacred Heart in a favourable position at 10/166, and Rostrevor at 8/60. Day 2 (today) got off to a shaky start with captain Jackson Petty pulling out sick and play being delayed with the pitch having soaked up too much of yesterday’s rain. The game is now back on track thanks to the tireless work of our groundsmen and Felix Farmer stepping up in place of the captain. So far, our standout players have been Alex Clark with 4 wickets in the first innings and Felix Farmer digging in at 31 not out overnight.
The match is being livestreamed HERE for those who can't make it in person tomorrow. Wishing the best of luck to our First XI!
Congratulations to Year 8 student, Spencer De Lacy who competed at the SA Little Athletics Championships over the weekend coming away with fantastic results. Spencer won gold in his age group in long jump (5.56m), triple jump (12.26m) and shot put (13.62m). He was also a finalist in the 100m (12.95s) and 200m (26.08s).
Selected students from Years 3-6 competed in the Junior Years Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival at Burnside pool on Monday. Our boys competed in the ‘Section 1’ category where they placed 5th overall. Fantastic effort, boys!
The Third XI Cricket team was solely comprised of Year 12 students on Saturday when they defeated St. Peter’s College 6/193 to 6/186. Being Year 12s, this was most likely their last match as a team for Rostrevor. The team’s top scorers were Darci Best (72*), and Thomas Grant (34*).
