Whether you’re staying home or have travel plans, I wish all our Rostrevor families a safe and restful break before we head into the second half of our Centenary year!
Next week, Rostrevor staff will be involved in professional learning before commencing their term break on 10 July. The focus will be on our ongoing commitment to Positive Education, supporting students within our inclusive education program and on the development of learner dispositions for Rostrevor College.
Today, I flew to Melbourne to attend the Victorian Old Scholars reunion for all those who couldn't be at the ROCA Business Lunch. A sneak peek of the Centenary Episode below was shown at the Business Lunch. Hear from some of our Old Scholars about what it means to be ‘Connected for Life’.
Students from Reception to Year 12 donned beanies today to raise funds for the Society of St Vincent de Paul. The money raised as well as the donations of winter woolies made by Rostrevor families will go towards assisting the homeless this winter. Students’ gold coin donations added up to over $500 to go with the many laundry baskets of donated items! Thank you to Emmanouel Pishas (Year 6 Identity leader) and Jack Haddad (Social Justice Prefect) for collecting the donations today.
Students in Year 8 and 9 enjoyed their first Red and Black disco last Friday night, alongside students from invited schools Loreto College, Mary Mackillop and St Aloysius.
Students enjoyed a night of socialising and dancing in Callan Hall. Monies raised will be donated to Friends of Mithra, whom we have a long-standing relationship with through previous Pilgrimages. Friends of Mithra is built upon Sr Mary Theodores dream of making life better for poor children and young adults with multiple disabilities in Chennai, India.

The Year 4 classes walked to Morialta Conservation Park yesterday afternoon in search of evidence of weathering and erosion. This adventure was linked to their Earth Space Science topic for the term. The boys hiked to Giant’s Cave in the drizzly rain and then had a chance for a quick play before heading back to school.
As part of the SACE Stage 1 Religion Studies course, all Year 11 students have this week had the opportunity to participate in a form of service, giving practical application to their studies of Christianity and living out the Rostrevor College ‘Man for Others’ philosophy. Students have been volunteering in a range of community placements including residential aged care, primary schools (including the Rostrevor Junior School), schools for students with intellectual disabilities, and other non-profit organisations such Meals on Wheels, The Hutt St Centre, the Vinnies House of Welcome and Edmund Rice Camps SA.
Claire Braund’s (pictured centre) family are descended from James Smith Reid (pictured below), who owned Rostrevor House before he sold it to the Christian Brothers in 1922. They flew to Adelaide from Sydney on Friday last week to view the house their Great-Great Grandfather had lived in and renovated in the early 20th century. They were treated to a tour of the house and afternoon tea and thoroughly enjoyed their visit, making many connections between the house’s history and their own.
A reminder applications for the Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 Manchester City Football School in 2024 close on Friday 30 June. A letter was sent to 2024 Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 families earlier this term.
There are also still places available in some holiday clinics. Held on campus during the Term 2 Holidays, the clinics are designed to develop players’ skills in a fun, safe and exciting environment inclusive of all abilities. The clinics are open to boys and girls from the wider Rostrevor community in Years 1 - 10.
Bookings are essential. BOOK HERE
Week 8 (last week) was Pink Round across all School Sports SA competitions in support of Breast Cancer awareness and research. Congratulations to our Pink Round medal recipients, who were last week recognised as Rostrevor’s most outstanding players for each match.
Our Term 2 clash with Sacred Heart College's First team didn’t go as we had hoped, with our rivals from across the city walking away with a convincing win on their home ground. Congratulations to Kade Maddigan on receiving the Pink Round Medal!
Nazareth was victorious over our First V Basketball team last week, scoring 50 points to our 43. Congratulations to Archie McNamara, who was our Pink Round medalist for the game.
This week, the First and Second teams played fellow EREA school, St Joseph's Gregory Terrace from Queensland, who stopped at Rostrevor for the last games of their tour of EREA schools. Our friends from the north proved too strong during both of the friendly games, but provided our players with valuable experience and displayed great sportsmanship.
Congratulations to the Year 6 Black basketball team (pictured) who won their game this week and are through to the grand final on Monday! Well done also to our Year 6 Red basketball team who only lost their semi-final by one point!
Term 3 begins on Monday 24 July, with boarding students returning to campus on Sunday 23 July. Term dates for 2023 are available by clicking HERE.
