Principal’s News - 28 March 2024

Today the College gathered in the Valley for Holy Thursday - the first of the Easter Triduum - and to walk the way of the Cross together. The Stations of the Cross represent the 14 events of Jesus Christ's Passion and forms a meditation as we called into prayer in these moments together. Led by Year 6 leaders, Identity leaders and supported by our Arts leaders, the Stations of the Cross reminds followers of Jesus's unconditional love and devotion. With prayer, imagery and music we are called to prayerfully reflect on the Passion of Christ during this Holy time.

With many families choosing to travel over Easter, I wish you all a safe and blessed long weekend before we return for the last two weeks of Term 1 on Tuesday.

Year 7 Enculturation Day

The Year 7 Enculturation Day is an annual event aimed at introducing students who are new to the Middle Years to the unique heritage, culture and ethos that shape a Rostrevor education. The cohort spent Friday last week rotating through different activities, broadening their understanding of the College. They heard stories of past eras from Br John Ahern in the Heritage room, learned how to play Rostrevor’s traditional game of Handball under the guidance of Old Collegian coaches, walked the College’s history trail and spent time with Year 11 mentors discussing the challenges and blessings of beginning their Middle Years journeys.

Rostrevor X Manchester City Football April School Holiday Clinics

Manchester City Football School Coordinator Jamie Lee is excited to host the clinics again during the upcoming school holidays. If you’re looking for a fun, safe and engaging activity to keep your kids entertained these holidays, look no further! The clinics are open to boys and girls from the wider Rostrevor community in Years 1-10 and cater to all abilities.

Bookings are essential. BOOK HERE

CO-CURRICULAR NEWS

Cricket Intercol

Rostrevor’s friendly rivalry with the Hearts community was on display last week at the Cricket Intercol! We congratulate Sacred Heart’s First XI on their performance, taking home the coveted trophy after three days of hotly contested play. Congratulations to Noah Mathews, who was awarded the Intercol Medal for scoring the most runs and wickets for Rostrevor.

Year 10 boarding student Kaiden Ronberg wrote about his experience watching the First XI’s match:

The crowd's energy is palpable, their cheers, chants and instruments a symphony of support for their respective teams. The sun beats down from above, casting a warm glow over the field, where players clad in whites engage in a battle of skill and strategy. At one end of the pitch, a bowler charges in with determination etched on his face, his arm whirling in a blur as he releases the ball with precision. The batsman at the crease braces himself, eyes locked on the approaching projectile, ready to execute a split-second decision that could swing the momentum of the game. The crack of leather on willow echoes through the air as the batsman connects, sending the ball soaring towards the boundary. The fielders scramble in pursuit, their agility and reflexes tested as they attempt to prevent runs and take wickets.

Junior Years Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival

A selection of Rostrevor’s best swimmers from Years 3 - 6 competed at the 2024 Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival on Monday. Well done to all students for their efforts across the competition. Their hard work was rewarded with being awarded third overall in the boys division. Thank you to all the swimmers’ family members who showed support throughout the day.

SA Metro U18s State Basketball Team Selection

Congratulations to Year 11 student Noah Sampson for his selection to represent South Australia at the Under 18 National Basketball Championship! Representing his state is a truly outstanding achievement, of which Noah should be incredibly proud. I wish Noah the best of luck as he ventures to Brisbane in April for the Championship.

Day Boys v Boarders Cricket Match

The hotly contested Boarders v Day Boys Cricket match returned this year after a four-year absence. Led by Captain Noah Mathews, the boarders scored at over 12 runs per over, proving too difficult for the day boys to match. In the end, the very jubilant group of boarders secured a comfortable 35-run victory!
