We eagerly look forward to one of major Centenary events tonight with the Rostrevor Night on the Lawns. The sell-out event promises to showcase a range of current and past Rostrevor talent as we are entertained by a range of musical performances throughout the evening. My gratitude is extended to the outstanding Rostrevor Music Department and to members of the Development Team for the significant amount of work done behind the scenes to ensure that the Night on the Lawns will be a celebration for all!
As the year continues, we look forward to future events that help to mark our Centenary Year. We are looking forward to announcing a launch date for the Centenary Book and the unearthing of a time capsule from 1983 – at this stage we are looking at a date in Term 3 as we work around Intercol, the Centenary Gala and other aspects of normal school life!
This week, our Middle & Senior Years First Nations students have been working with local Indigenous (Wulli Wulli) artist, Shane Cook to create a special Indigenous artwork celebrating 100 Years of Rostrevor and its connection with Indigenous students, both past, present and future. Keep an eye out for the finished design in the coming months!
“It’s been great to get an experienced artist in to work with us boys and teach us how to incorporate different designs into our artwork. All the boys worked together well, sharing ideas that can be used to create the final product” - Laquell Banderson (Year 12).
“Having Shane share his wisdom and expertise with us has been a blessing. I think all the boys have taken a lot away from the experience and we appreciate him coming” - Zaivier Page (Year 12).
It was a night to celebrate friendships, achievements, and their 13-year schooling journey as our Year 12 students and their guests donned their glad rags on Saturday. Held this year at the Hilton, an absolute blast was had by both staff and students.
On Friday, the Year 6 leaders went to National Young Leaders Day at the Adelaide Convention Centre. The focus was on leadership and making a difference. The boys had the opportunity to listen to Australian celebrities; AFLW star Gemma Houghton, Adelaide radio presenters Jodie and Hayesy, author Nathan Luff and Bondi Rescue’s “Harries”.
The Stage 2 Outdoor Education class enjoyed three days of surf and sunshine on the Yorke Peninsula from 15-17 March last week. The group camped at Daly Head, surfing at nearby breaks to refine their surfing prowess. Students will create a video reflection of their unique experience which will no doubt be a highlight of their education at Rostrevor. The class also had the opportunity to explore Innes National Park, learn about the natural landscape, local biodiversity and effects of human interaction within the region.
The Ride for Cancer bike ride is now underway! Mr Luke Manuel and four of his old scholar friends are currently on their way to the MCG in Melbourne after starting off from the Adelaide Oval this morning. Mr Frank Ranaldo and the Prefects made the treck to North Adelaide before school to see them off. We wish the riders all the best for their seven day, 761km journey. Funds raised will be split between the Leukemia Foundation, the Cancer Council, and the Breast Cancer Foundation. Donations can still be made through the group’s GoFundMe page.
Harmony Day is a time to celebrate the differences that make us unique and special. We use it to promote respect, inclusivity, and a sense of belonging for students. The central message for Harmony Day is that everyone belongs. Our Reception and Year 1 students partnered with their Year 6 buddies to create Harmony Day crowns after learning about the day’s important message.
Alecs Zorzi and Alex Clark participated in the Stableford Golf Competition on the North Adelaide greens last week. The pair came 5th overall. Congratulations boys!
Rostrevor's Year 9 cricket team secured a win over Pultney Grammar last week, scoring 94 runs to 66. Mackenzie Bishop and Henry Zippel were our highest-scoring batters, and Lachlan Mudge and Dante Cucchiarelli were our best bowlers on the day.
Congratulations to our Senior Water Polo team who remain undefeated so far for the 2023 season! Year 12, Harrison Lynch has written an entertaining account of the game which I encourage you to read below.
So, there we were. Everyone knew it. We knew it. Even they knew it. In twenty minutes, all would be said and done. A nonchalant nod of understanding told Lieutenant Rahaley all he needed, that with an unwavering resolve, we would fight. For him and for Shutey... READ MORE
