Welcome back to Term 4! I hope that you and your family had the opportunity to unwind and recharge over the break and are feeling ready to tackle the final term of the year. Our Year 12s are now getting towards the pointy end of their education, with only four official days of school left, finishing on Thursday next week. The entire Rostrevor staff wish them the best of luck as they prepare for their upcoming exams.
Today we welcomed our 2024 Reception students the Rostrevor College community. As a part of the Little Rossi Learners transition program, the boys will visit the College for the next five weeks to become familiar with the faces, places and spaces in the Junior Years. This exciting beginning marks the start of the Rostrevor journey for the young learners and their families.
Two Year 1 students, Max Walker and James Gill, were treated to the experience of a lifetime in the Term 3 holidays when they travelled to the MCG to present medals to the winning AFL Grand Final team! Max won the opportunity for James and himself after writing about who he would take with him to the Grand Final and why. Max wrote that he would take his best mate James, because football connects them.
The Reception class celebrated Loud Shirt Day today in support of people who are deaf or have hearing needs. Thank you to Josh Marotti’s mum, Megan, who came in to speak to students about living with hearing needs and teach them some Auslan.
The Air Force Indigenous Youth Program (IYP) provides young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with exposure to various skills, trades and lifestyle experiences in a hands-on, risk-free setting that shows the range of career opportunities available within the Royal Australian Air Force. Year 10 students Lachlan Nation and Will Farmer participated in the program this week, visiting a number of areas and speaking to people about their jobs, careers and their experiences in Defence.

The first round of the 35 Over Knockout Cricket saw Rostrevor host Gleeson College yesterday. After winning the toss, openers Sam Lehmann and Max Szarvas scored a strong 70-run partnership. Alecs Zorzi, Jake Polkinghorne and Will Fanning all chipped in with good starts but the star of the day was Sam. A well-built century gave Sam the satisfaction of lifting off the helmet for the first time before ending on 126*. Daniel Boulden and Majoor Ackland struck early, leaving Gleeson 2 for 32 with an undeniable uphill chase. Gleeson then dug the boots in and denied wickets for the next 20 overs before Jake took the third and final wicket of the day. With a 4/257 to 3/67 win and advancing onto the next round, well done boys!
Over the holidays, Rostrevor played host to the first round of the SACA Under 17 Premier Cricket. Five current Rostrevor First XI Cricket players were out representing their team on the day.
