The Feast of the Assumption of Mary is a significant day in the Catholic Faith. For Marian Day on Tuesday, we celebrated with a whole school Mass, led by Old Scholar Father Anthony Beltrame (’09). House groups gathered after Mass to hear from guest speakers from their House Charities. Students are challenged to live out their faith in action, through participation, awareness and support for those on the margins of our community. The gold coin donations collected on the day will be sent to the House charities to support their work in our community.
This week the Junior School celebrated National Science Week. This year's theme is Innovation: Powering Future Industries. The Reception to Year 2 classes participated in a Sci-World Push and Pull incursion where they learnt how simple machines are used every day to make their lives easier. Next week the Years 3-6 students will participate in an incursion facilitated by Nitro-Nat where they will learn about the states of matter.
Congratulations to the 14 students who, with their families, celebrated the Sacraments of Initiation into the Catholic Church at St Joseph’s Tranmere on Sunday. The Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion were presided over by Archbishop Patrick O'Regan. It was a very special and sacred celebration for our families in the nurturing and confirming of their child’s faith. May they be blessed with their new knowledge, to use the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit as they flourish in our local and worldwide community as young Catholics.
The year 5 cohort visited State Parliament House this morning to enhance their understanding of democracy and how our form of government operates in Australia. They were fortunate enough to have Old Scholar Vincent Tarzia MP ('09) and Heidi Girolamo MLC to show them through the house, visiting both the House of Assembly and the Legislative Council.
Our Year 5s have been busy in the Ideas Centre recently, participating in the Children’s Book Council of Australia Shadow Judging Program. The program is designed to encourage students "to imagine, think critically and respond creatively" to a shortlist of books, before voting for their favourites. The Year 5s held a ‘Voting Party’ for the Picture Book category.
Next week is Children’s Book Week! The theme of the week is Read, Grow, Inspire. There will be a Scholastic Book Fair in the Ideas Centre from Monday to Friday before and after school next week. We are keenly looking forward to seeing the many wonderful costumes our Junior Years students are putting together for the Book Week parade on Friday morning!

Our First XVIII was defeated by a strong Sacred Heart College opposition on Wednesday, 20.15-135 to 6.2-38. We're all incredibly proud of our players' growth this season and for the way in which they have represented the red and black. The experience of playing a game at Adelaide Oval was a truly special one, and our First XVIII should be proud of how they played this season, working hard to get Rostrevor to our first Grand Final since 2011!
The 100th annual Rostrevor vs Sacred Heart College Intercollegiate (Intercol) matches are coming up next week, with games scheduled from Tuesday 22 to Saturday 26 August. The Year 7 team won their debate on Monday night to finish off their season on a high, only narrowly missing out on finals. Congratulations to the Senior team who have snuck into finals at 8th place after a stellar season!
The Rostrevor Golf team had an internal Ambrose tournament held at Mawson Lakes Golf Course. The boys paired up and played the full 18 holes on a beautiful day with perfect weather. Fred Hancock (Year 9), Tim Randall (Year 7), Domenico Zappia (Year 11), Noah Matthews (Year 11) and Lucas Parletta (Year 11) all tied for second place.
