To say I was utterly impressed by the Principal’s Ball last Saturday night would be an understatement! The behaviour of the boys and their guests was exemplary and I was more than impressed with the way the boys interacted with one another, guests and the staff on the night. My thanks to the staff who attended the evening and supported such a special night for our Year 12s. Principal's Ball photo gallery here
This morning we held our first Principal’s Tour of the year and had the privilege of welcoming 46 families to the College. While we still needed to navigate our way through COVID restrictions, it was great to be able to showcase the College to families and young people eager to be part of our community. I especially thank our Prefects who supported the tours and provided such a strong example of what Rostrevor exemplifies.
This week, learners in Year 7 had the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming NAPLAN tests by completing the Yr 7 English practice tests. While there is much debate and speculation about NAPLAN across the country, it remains a tool which provides rich data to help educators establish what students know and how to support and enrich the next stages of learning. NAPLAN is a consistent source of data we have on a national level to help us benchmark and assess where a student’s learning is in comparison to national, state and school levels.
A fundraising initiative in support of the Leukaemia Foundation and blood cancer research will see several senior students including Luke Homan, Matthew Brown, Luke Signorello, Darcy McKenny, Cameron Tunno and Wyatt Pisani lose their locks at a lunchtime event at the College on Tuesday, April 5. They will be joined by Year 6 Nick Furst representing the Junior Years. The young men are hoping to recruit the services of several professional barbers/hairdressers from the Rostrevor community for the event, which will be a whole-of-school House-Colours day, including a sausage sizzle. Old Collegian and parent barbers and haircutters are welcome to nominate here. Families may support the fundraising efforts via this link: Rostrevor College World's Greatest Shave
Our Year 12 Outdoor Education students undertook a surfing camp this week as part of their SACE assessment, which also involves the filming and production of a video. In addition to honing their physical skills, the students focused on marine conservation as well as their own personal development. We look forward to sharing images and some videos in future blogs.
Increasing environmental awareness and developing skills relevant to the growing recreational tourism sector are among the benefits of the Outdoor Education offering at Rostrevor. See the recent Year 11 surfing excursion photo gallery here
Our Year 10s had a great day at Port Noarlunga Reef yesterday examining marine ecology and discussion conservation measures followed by some surfing at Southport.
The annual Harmony Day netball match between Rostrevor and Loreto Colleges was another great celebration of the bond between the two schools. Thanks go to Loreto for hosting our Prefect group this year. It was a close match as always, with Rostrevor securing a narrow 11-9 win. To see the students in action, see this Loreto vs Rostrevor video here

Well done to the JY students who competed in yesterday's Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival. A great team effort and some excellent individual results, including several ribbon-winning swims by Year 6 Dan McGuire-Coward, saw Rostrevor finish 4th in Division 1.
Good luck to champion clay-target shooters Lucas Parletta (Yr 10) and brother Stefen (Year 8) who are representing South Australia at the National Trap Championships in Wagga Wagga, NSW, this week. The brothers continue to make their mark on the state and national circuit with a swag of ribbons in multiple competitions in recent months. Lucas is the recipient of the 2022 Junior Scholarship award by the SA Clay Target Association. Following the Nationals, the pair will take part in the Shooting Australia Performance Series this year with the aim of being selected in Shooting Australia's Pathways Squad for 2023. The boys have their sights set on representing Australia at the Brisbane Olympics in 2032.
