We are delighted to have welcomed 10 new families to the College this Term - from as far afield as Dubai - and I am happy to report that our newest students are enjoying their first weeks at Rostrevor. The commencement of Term 2 also sees the start of the winter Co-Curricular program, as well as the reinforcement and expansion of learning that has occurred so far this year.
It has been a busy return to school with Year 8 excursions, Edmund Rice Day celebrations, parent-student-teacher interviews and NAPLAN testing. We congratulate students who have taken part in NAPLAN this week with positive and confident attitudes and I also acknowledge our enthusiastic young readers who have already completed the 2022 Premier's Reading Challenge four months early!
We aim to develop in students an understanding and appreciation that their general appearance is an outward sign to others of the pride and respect one has in oneself and the school. Consequently, we encourage students to be neatly groomed - this includes wearing the uniform correctly and being presented in a neat and tidy manner. Students regularly receive reminders about the uniform expectations and, over the next few weeks, particular attention will be given to the manner in which students present themselves. We thank families in anticipation of your support.
Welcome to Joshua (Yr 9) and Matthew (Yr 7) Du Plooy who are among Rostrevor's newest students, having arrived in Australia from Dubai only two weeks ago. The boys, who were born in Belgium and England, but have spent much of their childhood in South Africa, have a keen interest in Cricket, Rugby and Jujitsu and say they are keen to immerse themselves in everything Rostrevor has to offer. Joshua and Matthew's mother Marlize said: "I loved everything I read about the school and it's been such a warm and lovely experience starting here. The teachers and the other boys have been so welcoming."
Congratulations to our First XVIII leadership group of Beau Baldwin (capt), Darcy McKenny (vice-capt) and Wyatt Pisani (dept vice-capt) who were presented with their guernseys by 2018 Head Prefect and former Fremantle Dockers player Luke Valente following a trial match against PAC last weekend. It was a close contest with only 7 points separating the two sides and plenty of promising signs from the players who will, undoubtedly, continue to develop under the guidance of Coach James Allan. Thanks go to Luke Valente and the families who came out to support the boys, and special thanks to Claude Beltrame (‘78) for his great action pics. See the full gallery HERE
What a week it was for Soccer at Rostrevor!! The First XI opened its account with a 3 - 1 win against Sacred Heart in a day of exciting "firsts". The team was brilliantly led by its freshly-announced leadership group of Co-Captains David Preka and Gianni Ruggiero, as well as Fabian Talladira (VC), with Vincenzo Scalzi (DVC) expected to return next week. First XI debutants included Jakob Centofanti, Jake Fantasia, Christian Corbo and Rocco Puccini. Congratulations to Marco Matto who scored his first goal for the side, and thanks go to last year's First XI captains, Lachlan Fusco and Dion Meggetto, for presenting guernseys and inspiring the boys. Well done to all the players and First XI Coach Mr Terry Frangakis on a great start to the season. See some great photos by Claude Beltrame ('78) HERE
Rostrevor's Year 10 and 11 Specialist Soccer program students had the opportunity to attend an Adelaide United A-League training session on Wednesday. More than 40 boys visited the Reds' Ridley Reserve training base and observed how the sports science department, physiotherapists, coaches and support staff work together to provide players with an environment that fosters excellence. Led by Rostrevor's own former Reds player and Soccer Coordinator, Mr Daniel Mullen, the students saw the discipline and commitment displayed by the players and the level of detail required to train and play as a professional.
Rostrevor representatives met with students from around SA on Tuesday to discuss matters regarding young people as part of the Charter Ambassador Program for Children and Young People - with a key theme being connection to the community. Year 11 student Harrison Lynch said: "At Rostrevor, we are very fortunate to be in a community that truly cares and values each person, which is complemented by the connection between the Junior and Senior years. Senior students run activity days and retreats throughout the year and also help at lunch and recess to officiate games and give the boys someone to chat to and kick the footy with when needed."
Well done to Rostrevor's Year 2 and 4 students who have already completed the Premier's Reading Challenge four months early. Year 4 teacher Mr Adam Pipe said a little added incentive did not go astray!
Rostrevor is gaining a reputation for its great riding talent with several podium finishes at Friday's School Sports SA Mountain Bike Team Championship. Congratulations to Year 8 riders Liam Underwood, Sam Ivas and Isaac Medder for taking out first place in the Middle School division. Well done, also, to Year 6 riders Ryan Underwood and Zac Seret for finishing second in the Junior School Division. Thanks go to teachers Mr Roberts and Mr Hunt, as well as our fantastic parents, who made the event such a success.

Brother Coughlin was joined by students, staff and friends from Edmund Rice Camps as he celebrated his 80th over the weekend. Br Cogs has given much to Rostrevor over the decades as a student, Brother, teacher, coach, gardener and friend. More recently, Br Coughlin continues to pass on his wisdom and support to students at Edmund Rice and Head to Heart camps.
