Dux Assembly & Vice Captain announcements

Today's "virtual" Dux Assembly and student leadership ceremony celebrates the achievements of the Class of 2021 and acknowledges the young men who have been elected as 2022 Vice Captains. I would like to congratulate 2021 Dux Jordan Zorzi and thank 2012 Dux Connor Deegan for his insightful address that certainly raises some important issues and invites boys to be gentle, supportive and true men for others. Please view the Term 1 Assembly video and photo gallery below.

COVID-19 Updates

Yesterday, families received two important letters regarding changes to the notification of Classroom Contacts and student-free days that will be held on the last day of Term 1 and the first day of Term 2. While COVID certainly isn’t going away, the changes regarding the notification of classroom contacts will, hopefully, be far more manageable for both staff and families. The most important thing families and staff can continue to do is monitor for symptoms and keep students away from school if they have any COVID-like symptoms.

On the whole, the College has been relatively lucky with the number of cases we’ve seen across the term and I thank students, families and staff for all you have done in regard to COVID restrictions and management.  At this point in time, we are yet to be advised of details regarding ongoing restrictions, but I can assure families that we are eager to have things return to a semblance of “normal” whenever that can be!

We are all disappointed that our planned Year 11 and Year 12 Retreats are not able to go ahead in Week 11 and are certainly aiming for them to be rescheduled, COVID permitting, to a later date. My thanks to students and families for their understanding – the decision not to proceed was taken out of our hands!

World's Greatest Shave

Excitement is building over Tuesday's World's Greatest Shave fundraising event and House Colours Day. Award-winning barber Danny Lazzarino ('08) from The Hive Barber Shop at Hectorville is among several professional barbers who will pick up their clippers at the lunchtime event in support of the students (including Year 6 Nicholas Furst and Year 12s Darcy McKenny and Cameron Tunno) as they aim to raise $3000 for the Leukaemia Foundation. Rostrevor parent Foaud Fandi from Fandi Scissorhands at Newton will also provide support on the day. See the Rostrevor students' Donation Page here

Rostrevor Athletics Team Competition - April 12

Following great success at last year's Achilles Cup, Rostrevor's athletes are preparing to hit the track and field in the final week of Term 1 (April 12). Led by 2022 Athletics Coach Mark Roberts and spearheaded by national track and field athletes Thomas Griffiths, Liam Waters and Wieu Duang Deng, the team is poised for a strong showing at the SA School Sports Track and Field Championships (Year 7 - 12). Thanks go to 2021 Athletics Captain Thomas Snowball and 2021 Social Justice Prefect Tristan Hunter for their support at training over the past month.

Thomas wins Bronze at Nationals

Well done to Thomas Griffiths (Yr 10) who, at just 15 years old, won a National bronze medal in the U17 100m sprint at the Australian Track and Field Championships on Wednesday. We wish him well in tomorrow's 200m event.

Junior Years Assembly

Today, the Junior Years gathered as a whole for the first time this term and spoke about our community spirit and who we are as Rostrevor students. It was an opportunity to welcome new students and staff to the school, and to meet College Chaplain Br John Ahern. Our student leaders led the Junior Years in prayer as we focused on the last weeks of Lent and our efforts to support others through Project Compassion.

Rostrevor dominates Norwood U18 Leadership

Congratulations to Tyson Walls ('21) on being named Captain of Norwood's U18 side for 2022. He is joined in the leadership group by current Year 12 students Wyatt Pisani (third from left) and Max Daw (second from right).

AFL greats present to Year 10s

Year 10 Specialist Athlete Development Program (Football) students have been given the great opportunity to hear direct from AFL legends Joel Selwood and Luke Hodge via Zoom in the Kelty Theatre in recent weeks. The Year 10 theory component on Culture, taught by First XVIII Coach James Allan, focuses on the culture of "dynasty teams" that have won three or more premierships in one era. Joel and Luke were both very open with what their clubs valued, what the expectations were and who the key figures were in building the culture that paved the way for premiership success.

Cricket Intercol 2022

Despite some excellent bowling and fielding displays, Rostrevor fell a few runs short in its annual First XI Intercol against Sacred Heart College. The match was played in great spirit with Jed Burton (41 runs) winning the Intercol Medal, while Josh Mothersole was good with the ball, taking 3/21.
