The boarding community at Rostrevor, like the College itself, adopts a holistic approach to the care of boys. Whilst we take every effort to ensure that academic and co-curricular opportunities are maximised, we equally care for the spiritual side of their development. We believe that a valuable part of our role at Duggan House is to ensure that boys have the chance to learn from their experiences and to grow into young men. We constantly encourage them to be the best they can be and do the best they can do with the talents they have.
The boys are given the best care possible thanks to our supervisors who support the boys with their studies and act as mentors. Our full-time housemother provides a range of support and assistance, and our dedicated chef keeps the boys fed with nutritious and hearty meals.
In addition to the wide range of facilities and opportunities we offer our boarders, we also accommodate the learning interests of many regional students with our agricultural and environmental studies curriculum, including our own on-campus farm and vineyard.
"The brotherhood is nice. Everyone is treated like brothers so no one’s excluded. The staff are also really friendly. They treat you like family. Outside of school hours I like hanging out with mates. Usually we kick the footy, play soccer or play basketball. There’s a long list of stuff you can do after school.
"I like how close I live to the school. I can wake up and have breakfast and then school is only a matter of meters away. I get a lot of tutoring too. At 6:30 every day we do study - it really helps! The chefs are amazing with the food! The menu changes often, so you don’t get bored of any of it.

"My favourite thing about being a Rostrevor boarder is the connection and the brotherhood here. I get to meet new people from all over Australia too. My favourite thing to do after school is play football with all my friends. We also go to AFL games together and go shopping at the mall.
"My favourite subject is Agriculture. We’re in a cropping competition at the moment. We’re versing other schools around Adelaide to see who can make the best crop.
"All the facilities here are upgraded and all state-of-the-art with new technology. We all have separate rooms and only have access to our own room using our wrist bands, so we always have privacy."
"All the facilities are really good, we don’t have to share rooms. The rooms are really comfy and homey. The bathrooms are all modern and kept really clean. When all the boys are around it’s always a good environment.
"I really like the brotherhood around the boarding house and being around this group of boys. Coming home from school, it’s a really good environment to come back to.
"The food’s also really good. There are great chefs here who are always feeding us good hearty meals. The staff are really nice, always good to chat to. They’re always there for you."
Rostrevor College has a history of nurturing boarding students from rural and remote areas dating back to 1923. In fact, the College was founded to take boarding students from Christian Brothers College on Wakefield Street, which could no longer adequately cater for the increasing number of boys who wanted to board.
Duggan House was named after Matron Monica Duggan, who was Matron at the College for over 30 years from the 1950s to the 1980s. In 1984, boarding was closed at Rostrevor and reopened with a new, state-of-the-art building in 1991. Boarding was once again refurbished between 2020 and 2021, resulting in what is today a modern and relaxing living space for Rostrevor's boarders.
